Are You Believing Lies About God?

Our approach to God is conditioned by our concept of Him, whether accurate or distorted. ~Graham Kendrick

Most Christians would agree that God is loving, forgiving, caring and always with us.  Yet, when it comes to our personal, intimate relationship with Him, our concept of God can be quite different.  We may have a hard time believing He is willing to forgive us when we hard done something really bad.  Or, we may think He has abandoned us when we feel alone.  We might even envision God as being mean and rejecting, or hard to please. All of these are lies about God.

So, why would anyone believe lies about God?  There are many different reasons our understanding and perception of God can be distorted.  We may have been told from a very young age that God is out to get us if we get out of line.  Or, we may have had a hard-to-please parent and naturally project this image onto our heavenly Father.  For some of us, our intellect gets in the way.  We just cannot seem to believe that God cares about every detail of our lives.  It does not make sense; therefore, it probably is not likely.  Or, problems in accepting, forgiving and loving ourselves can make it extremely difficult to receive God’s love or believe that He could possibly love us.

Our life experiences and deep-seated emotions all contribute to our belief system.  We may know in our hearts the truths about God and His character, yet we consciously or unconsciously believe lies about Him.  When the lies are dispelled in the light of the Truth of His Word, our lives change dramatically.  We draw closer to our Heavenly Father.  We know we are loved, accepted, secure and significant in Him.  It is the more remarkable experience in the Christian’s life aside from salvation.

A believer who knows who they are in Christ and the truth about who God is, is empowered to live the abundant life Jesus died to give us.  The truth dispels all darkness. The truth sets the captive free.  The truth brings healing, peace of mind, and empowers the Christian to live in victory every single day.  The lies about God and the believer are all dispelled by the Truth of God’s word.  May every believer grow in the knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of the Truth that makes us free!

The most important belief we can possess is a true knowledge of who God is. The second most important belief is to know who we are as children of God. ~ Dr. Neil T. Anderson

Hello My Name is...

People will label you not good enough. God labels you strong, talented, valuable, more than a conqueror. Make sure that you're wearing the right labels. ~Joel Osteen

Some people define themselves by their past mistakes.  Regret, defeat, guilt and shame do not have to define us.  We can stop believing the lies about ourselves.  If we know who we are in Christ, we are changed and set free. This song, by Matthew West, is inspiring and a great reminder that we are loved by God and we are who He says we are in Christ. May it bless you!

"Hello, My Name Is" by Matthew West

Hello, my name is regret
I’m pretty sure we have met
Every single day of your life
I’m the whisper inside
That won’t let you forget

Hello, my name is defeat
I know you recognize me
Just when you think you can win
I’ll drag you right back down again
‘Til you’ve lost all belief

Oh, these are the voices. Oh, these are the lies
And I have believed them for the very last time

Hello, my name is child of the one true King
I’ve been saved, I’ve been changed, I have been set free
"Amazing Grace" is the song I sing
Hello, my name is child of the one true King

Whoa oh ah oh ah oh oh

I am no longer defined
By all the wreckage behind
The one who makes all things new
Has proven it’s true
Just take a look at my life

Hello, my name is child of the one true King
I've been saved, I've been changed, I have been set free
"Amazing Grace" is the song I sing
Hello, my name is child of the one true King

What love the Father has lavished upon us that we should be called His children
I am a child of the one true King

What love the Father has lavished upon us that we should be called His children

Hello, my name is child of the one true King
I've been saved, I've been changed, I have been set free
"Amazing Grace" is the song I sing
Hello, my name is child of the one true King

I am a child of the one true King

I am no longer defined by all the wreckage behind. The one who makes all things new has proven it’s true.  Just take a look at my life. I'm a child of the one true King!  ~Matthew West

The Power of Habit and the Neglected Vineyard

Cultivate only the habits that you are willing should master you. ~Elbert Hubbard
I love the book of Proverbs. It is filled with life lessons and words of wisdom to live by.  Today as I was reading, I came across a passage about the lazy person.  I stopped and reflected on its powerful message about the power of habit and how it can change your life if you will learn from it and apply it to your life.

Here it is:  I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense. I saw that it was overgrown with nettles.  It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down.  Then, as I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, and a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. (Proverbs 24:30-34)

First, we read that somebody was walking.  We do not know where this person was going or where he came from, but we do know that he was observing the scenery along the way.  A neglected vineyard immediately got his attention.  There was nobody out working and caring for it, and obviously nobody had for some time.  Its walls were broken down and it was overgrown with weeds and thorns.  The unsightly image taught this man a great lesson about work and applying yourself.  For whatever reason, the owner did not put in the work needed to take good care of his property.

This made me think about forming and maintain healthy habits.  If we take care of the vineyards of our minds and bodies, we will have good results.  But if we neglect them, our fields with be overgrown with unwanted consequences.  Our health, relationships, work and overall well-being are all affected by the power of habit.

I love this quote:
People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures. ~ FM Alexander

The Power of Habit: 7 Easy Steps to a New Habit

We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.
 ~ John Dryden

It is easy to form a bad habit, but not so easy to break a bad habit. A good habit, on the other hand, may take more time to form, but good or healthy habits  have many benefits. They make life more enjoyable, successful and fulfilling!  But they do not happen without some effort on our part.  Forming healthy habits takes a decision and some practice.

Following are 7 easy steps on how to form new, healthy habits:

1. Decide on the habit you want to develop.
2. Ask yourself: What are the benefits of this new habit?
3. Set goals you want to achieve. Start with small steps.
4.  Focus on consistency rather than performance.
5.  Find someone to hold you accountable (a friend, family member, counselor) who can remind you of your goals and help to get you back on track if your veer off.
6.  Reward yourself.
7.  Stay committed. Persist in the face of setbacks. Get help if necessary. And never ever give up!

Who You Are In Christ

Every believer should stand tall with high self-esteem by understanding who he or she is in Christ. ~ Archibald Hart

Do you know who you are in Christ? As a child of God, you have a new identity.  In Christ, you are an overcomer.  You no longer have to live in defeat.  In Christ, you are courageous. Fear does not have to control you.  In Christ, you are blessed, successful and full of hope and purpose.

Taking time every day to reaffirm what God says about you is life changing!  In the Christian devotional, In Christ, I Am: God's Promises on Who You Are in Christ that Will Transform You from the Inside Out you will discover over 150 truths from the Bible about your identity in Christ. The Scriptures are written in first person so you can confess and receive God’s life transforming truth into your heart.

Christian devotions is the key to building upon a solid foundation of God’s Word and putting it into practice. You are who God says you are. You can have what God says you can have. And, you can do what God says you can do!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  ~ 1 Corinthians 5:7
Following is an excerpt from the Christian Devotional, In Christ, I am….

I am carefree; I am anxious for nothing

Lord, when doubt fills my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer.  (Psalm 94:19, TLB)    I cast the whole of my care (all my anxieties, all my worries, all my concerns, once and for all) on You, for You care for me affectionately and care about me watchfully.  (1 Peter 5:7, Amplified) I don’t worry about anything, but I pray about everything.  With a thankful heart I offer up my prayers and requests to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, guards my heart and mind through Christ Jesus.  (Phil. 4:6-7, CEV, NKJV)

God’s Word has the power to transform your life.  Once you truly understand who you are in Christ, you will live the victorious, abundant life that Jesus died to give to you. ~Krystal Kuehn
